In addition to reading and movies suggestions, the library branches invite visitors and residents to stop in and register for their planned activities that correspond with Chocolate Week, Feb 11-20, a Destination Marketing Initiative in partnership with the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce and sponsor the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism.

This year is packed with activities for families, couples and own personal appetites such as free environmental events such as The Long Beach Island Foundation February Science Saturday will give a tribute to local ecosystem with a Chocolate Turtle Hand out Enjoy a Blissful Massage featuring a Mayan Gold Chocolate antioxidant drink with the area’s top spas. Stay overnight and take in the Minerva Bed & Breakfast Chocolate Cooking Class, Magnolia House’s Romantic Getaway or Daddy Os decadent dinners. Looking to getaway for more than a weekend? Directed by Francis Kelly with choreography by Taryn Herman, and music direction by Jeremy Randall, Plaid Tidings – A Special Holiday Edition of Forever Plaid is written by Stuart Ross and continues the story of the singing group whose lives were lost in an accident involving a busload of teens en route to see The Ed Sullivan Show. Encouraged by a heavenly phone call from Rosemary Clooney, the high-spirited boys of Forever Plaid – Frankie, Sparky, Jinx and Smudge are transported from the ethereal cosmos to stage a nostalgic holiday extravaganza for world-weary mortals on Earth. Stuffed with such Plaid-erized Christmas standards as Mr. Santa, Let It Snow and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Plaid Tidings is one holiday treat that is truly heaven-sent.

Stuart Ross directed the original New York production of Forever Plaid and many of the long-running productions around the world. He also helmed Forever Plaid: The Movie, which is slated for release in the spring of 2012. The Sound of Plaid, the coed glee club version of Forever Plaid, has been performed in schools and colleges around the country.

December 3: Ship Bottom Christmas Parade and Winter Festival: 10am-4pm. Parade route is from 5th to 25th Street (1pm).

December 3: Fantasy Island Christmas Parade Events & After Party: Look for characters of “Our Fantasy Island” in the parade, as well as Mayor Gator who will be handing out special gifts! Fantasy Island will be hosting the after party event for the parade from 3-6pm, where kids can get free goodie bags, free pictures with Santa, and they can redee, their special gift! Santa will have “Our Fantasy Island” storybooks while supplies last.

December 8: Holiday Tour of Homes: 10am-4pm. The LBI garden Club hosts the event, featuring 7 homes decorated for the holidays by the club, a tea and boutique. Tickets are $35, order at www.thegardencluboflbi.com
